Almost through with week 3

Well, it has been a while since I have had internet access. Since the last time I posted there has been more work, more work, more work, a playground build, and spring break.

Lets see... here we have the house I live in. It's a Habitat house built by people just like myself. 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, very luxurious!

And the room I share with 2 other guys. I sleep on a mat on the floor! Great for the back :)

Some photos from work... Some from a Habitat worksite, some from a warehouse, and some from the KaBoom! playground build.

Jill and Tamra at the worksite

Jason and Jeff at the worksite

Hannah and Me at the KaBoom! build

The KaBoom! volunteer group. All of us built a playground from the ground up in less than one day. We were fortunate enough to be able to take part in such an event.

Went to Gulf Shores, AL for spring break. We camped and hung around the beach for a few days. We stopped at the Coleman outlet and I bought way too much stuff.
Please meet the Gulf...

Habitat Mobile Week 1

Hey all-
Sitting here in the van stealing wireless from the local Latino market... Internet is scarce down here at the moment. So far everything is going great. We live in a house built by Habitat last year in Irvington, AL, which is just outside Mobile. We are currently finishing construction on a couple homes. We work with alternative spring break volunteers. Along with doing the actual work ourselves we are supposed to be supervising the volunteers, who get priority when it comes to work. This week we wrapped the house in Tyvex, layed tar paper on the roof, shingled the roof, installed french doors, cut and installed soffit, and painted parts of vinyl siding. Soon I expect we will be laying foundation and digging trenches for plumbing. The first week has been great. Working construction is a lot of fun, but very demanding on the body. It gets pretty hot here already. I have successfully acquired a good farmers tan already.
Enough about work-
I am having the time of my life doing this. My septum is almost healed already at just 4 weeks today. For questions regarding that, I got it pierced! I have days when I am homesick for my girl Amber, my close friends, and my family. I miss you all very much. I recently decided to again become vegetarian, in combination with being lactose intolerant, and it has been pretty exciting. I have learned a lot lately about vitamins and minerals necessary for being a healthy vegetarian so I feel confident that I will be healthier than before. We visited Baton Rouge this past weekend. It was work related but OK nonetheless and I got to see most of my old housemates. Spring break is coming up this next weekend and we are traveling to New Orleans. We are going to stay there for 4 days to see the sights and of course, hang out on Bourbon Street! Looking forward to it. I have a picture of my house but it isn't on the computer yet so I can't show you. Maybe next time.
Well, our laundry is done so we are going to head home for dinner.

See you next time,
Justin

Goodbye North, Hello South!

Say bye-bye to Maryland...
And it's about time. I'm heading out tomorrow morning. Our first portion of the roadtrip (567 mi – about 9 hours 4 mins) will land us in Knoxville, TN. Halfway there... The last half of the journey (495 mi – about 7 hours 28 mins) will put us at our destination of Mobile County.
In total the mileage and timeframe look like this: 1,041 mi – about 16 hours 27 mins

The next couple days in Mobile will look like this:

Mar 7 - Tomorrow
Cloudy skies early, then partly cloudy in the afternoon. High 68F.

Mar 7 - Tomorrow night
Partly cloudy skies with gusty winds. Low 41F.

Mar 8 - Saturday
Mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the mid 30s.

Ready to hit the beach anyone? Just kidding... it actually looks like it wont be that nice.

Ahhhh! Just got the phone call for checkout. Gotta run
